Chicago Grand Gallery is pleased to invite you to the opening reception of TENSILE LIFEWORLD SUGAR-FREE, a group exhibition curated by Tamara Li, bringing together eight artists whose work explores resilience, identity, memory, and the tension between personal experience and a world undergoing profound change. The exhibition traces an artistic journey from Kyiv to New York and Chicago, connecting three cities through a shared exploration of art under pressure. Kyiv — The Point of Origin The project originates in Kyiv, where artists create amid the realities of full-scale war, uncertainty, and profound historical change. Art becomes a means of preserving memory, documenting lived experience, and resisting chaos. New York — Sugar-Free The project's first exhibition in New York introduced Sugar-Free, a rejection of commercial gloss, artificial sweetness, and decorative perfection. It presented the raw, uncompromising energy of Ukrainian artists through graphic minimalism, rigorous geometry, and vivid abstraction. Chicago — The Tensile Lifeworld In Chicago, a city defined by steel, architecture, and engineering, the project takes on a new dimension. Tensile describes a material's ability to withstand immense tension without breaking. Lifeworld represents the universe of human experience, memory, culture, identity, and everyday life. Together, these concepts explore how our personal worlds can be stretched to their limits while retaining their structure and strength. TENSILE LIFEWORLD SUGAR-FREE is a reflection on resilience and the unbending human spirit — on the ability to resist disintegration, preserve identity, and continue creating even under extraordinary pressure.
